The Astrology of Mental Health

Natal and Transit Charts

The natal chart offers one of the earliest maps of the human mental - emotional - spiritual anatomy. How do these layers of consciousness communicate, or conversely, disassociate?

The knowledge of planetary transits stimulating health crises offers the student a further jewel to this crown! Although highly influential to Jung’s seminal work, (and many practitioners following), “astro-psychology” is, in fact, ancient. We discover a complex understanding of mental and emotional “qualities” and their extreme states, in Ptolemy’s Tetrobiblios, 140 CE.

Judith has orchestrated six classes into four categories reflecting their planetary energetics:
  • “Red” Disorders; hyperactivity, mania, ADHD, temper management
  • “Blue” Disorders: depression, sleeping, some types of OCD
  •  “Disconnected Planets” Disorders: multiple personality disorder, autism, schizophrenia includes onset pattern charts for schizophrenia)
  • “Memory” Disorders”: Alzheimer's, Dementia, Memory Overwhelm (those who can’t forget!)

The BENEFITS of this series...

  • Those accepting of the astrological paradigm, will greatly enhance and expand their view of the complete human anatomy. We study the connections between our many layers of being, as reflected in the natal chart, and acted upon by current transits.

  • Learn the ancient “lost etiologies” of mental health, inclusive of causations not limited to brain chemistry, current life imprinting or trauma.

  • The health practitioner can more quickly assess the unique energetics behind an individual’s diagnosis.

  • Learn to recognize episodic transits that might trigger a critical period. (Class 5)

  • Study onset patterns and fascinating traditional remedials (for their historic relevance). This unique class offers the student a rare opportunity to assess mental and psychic ex- tremes from the ancient energetic and astrological paradigms.

Learn the astrological “signatures” observable in four distinct categories of mental dis-ease and crises.

Class Descriptions

Class 1: "Blue" Conditions: Depression and Catatonia

Understand the astrological conditions correlative to chronic depression (dysthymia). How are “dry” depressions different from “wet” cases? What was meant by “Saturnine?” What transits encourage depressed states?
Several chart examples include Abraham Lincoln, Robin Williams, Naomi Judd, and JK Rowling.

Competencies:

  1. Learn at least six distinct astrological chart “signatures” that are often coincident with a diagnosis of dysthymia (chronic depression).
  2. As reflected in the natal and transit charts, you'll be able to recognize (and hypothetically consider) the many different reasons possible for the manifestation of chronic depression.
  3. Learn the historic and traditional western views of depression,  prior to the eighteenth century 'Age of Enlightenment', and the consequent later development of modern psychology.

Class 2: "Red" Conditions: Hyperactivity, ADHD, Panic, Mania, Bi-polar, Temper Management Disorder

Mars gives courage and energy, but what happens when this planet’s influx becomes excessive? What signs and aspects are “red” enough to cause panic attacks? How is hyperactivity astrologically different than ADHD? What karmic conditions contribute to mysteriously arising panic attacks? Chart examples include Scarlet Johansson, Mickey Rooney, Jimmie Hendrix, and Pete Rose.

See the insight-filled Free Preview clip of this class "Anger Styles and the Motive: Mars in the 12 Signs"

Competencies:

  1. Learn to identify an excessively “hot” intrinsic state in an individual birth chart.
  2. Learn to identify various conditions of the planet Mars in the birth chart that might lead to temper management disorders, mania, or hyperactivity.
  3. Assess the twelve different styles of Mars (as reflective of both the motive for and twelve distinctive individual fight/flight (or freeze) responses.
  4. Learn to recognize astrological chart “signatures” typical of panic disorder, temper management disorders, hyperactivity, and mania.
  5. Recognize the difference between “cold, wet” charts, “cold, dry” charts, and “hot, dry” charts
  6. Comprehend the reasoning behind traditional remedial approaches (this list will be fleshed out more in Classes 3-6)

"Planet Dis-associative Disorders"
Class 3: The Astrology of Autism

Learn Judith’s unique theory of autism, based on the study of several fascinating birth charts. What do these charts have in common?

Competencies

  1. Using the natal chart, learn to recognize several functional contributions to autism including:
    • excess sensory stimulation with inadequate, or scrambled "filter"
    • blocked sensory data
    • sensory reception disconnection from external sensory input
    • potential supernatural interference and the "thin veil".
  2. Assessment of physical vs "spiritual"  etiologies.
  3. Learn to recognize "disconnection", or "aversion" in the natal chart between:
    • two halves of the brain
    • rational mind versus memory
    • conscious thought versus feeling response
    • mind and current, consensus reality
    • feeling, and current consensus reality.
  4. Identify three centers of "self" in the horoscope and learn to assess the strength of self-awareness (and how this might relate to the autism spectrum).
  5. Assess the birth chart's personal commander ( i.e. the traditional "ruler", or "helmsperson"), understand how this planet may contribute to autism spectrum, and why.

Class 4: Multiple Personality Disorder

How do several “divorced” personality centers show themselves in one natal chart? What might be some spiritual and astrological causes for this puzzling condition? Could reincarnation etiology play a part? Includes several chart examples including similarities and differences of mutable personalities (not MPD/DID) of comedians Robin Williams and Jim Carrey.

Competencies

  1. Learn to recognize diverse personality “constructs” in the natal chart.
  2. Recognize where two personality constructs exist within the same individual, in “aversion”, (disassociation).
  3. Understand the four main centers of personal identity in the horoscope, and how they substantially differ from one another.
  4. Comprehend how the four quadrants and four angles influence dominant personality trait manifestation.
  5. Consider various possible routes and reasons for manifesting disassociating personalities.
  6. Learn and compare modern views of MPD/DID causation and goal of cure versus ancient models.

Class 5: Schizophrenia, Psychoactive and Supernatural Disorders

What astrological patterns signify a heightened porousness between the conscious and subconscious minds? Or, between this plane of existence and “the other side”. What are traditional methods for assessing the possibility of supernatural etiology? This last class is invaluable for understanding the lost etiologies of the Renaissance.

We also study the transits of first-onset schizoid episodes. This is tremendously valuable and rare information for the mental health practitioner.

"Memory Disorders"
Class 6: Dementia, Alzheimer's, OCD

Understand the difference between memory disorders governed by Saturnian, Neptune, or the South Node (and their impact on Moon and Mercury).  Includes several chart examples.
