THE TURNING OF THE SPIRAL 

 

 

This Northern Hemisphere’s Summer Solstice of late June 20^th – 21^st occurs annually as Sol enters the deeply sensitive, Moon-ruled zodiac sign of Cancer. This sign’s glyph features two inward curling spirals – a perfect depiction of Cancer’s centripetal, or inward moving properties. Now, the solar force retreats inward, towards the stomach, breast, womb and most essentially, our inner world of personal memories and feelings. Renowned poetic nature philosopher and Cancer native Henry David Thoreau presents an ideal portrait of this sign’s reflective superpowers. No sign exceeds Cancer’s ability to personally connect, feel and hear the Divine through sacred space, ancestors, and affectionate bonding! 

            For sensitive persons, enhanced psychic protections are suggested, especially near June 28^th– July 2^nd; plus, the psychologically “unstable” dates of July 4^th– 6^th; and the Cancer New Moon of July 13^th– 14^th.             However, this month also includes many converse influences. Stimulating Mars and chaotic Uranus continue to overstimulate the nerves from Gemini (see June’s “Uranus Unleashed”). The Mars-Uranus conjunction of July 2^nd– 4^th is hyper electrical, with effects lingering clear through August 11^th! Sedative herbs may soften this excitable transit for those inclined to neural excitability or neuromuscular inflammation. And… giant Jupiter, our “king of the planetary pantheon” entered Leo, sign of the heart, on June 29^th!  

            Jupiter is joined in Leo by the all-important Lunar South Node on July 27^th. This means that two of our most essential medical time clocks have changed signs! Leo governs the heart whereas Cancer rules the pericardium – the heart’s elastic covering. By late month, blood pressure and arterial health move forcibly to the front burner.

            Jupiter’s Leo journey potentially increases arterial pressure and/or heart, brain, liver or gallbladder congestion; whereas the South Node is infamous for weakening the vessels and functions of any sign it traverses (sans remediation).

             The Sun increases this Leonine emphasis by entering Leo on July 22^nd, joining Jupiter as the Moon enters the Leo-Aquarius “heart axis” between July 28^th– 30^th. We now see the “turning of the spiral” as Sol’s life maintaining vital force reverses motion from centripetal (inward moving towards center) to centrifugal (outward moving from center)!  

            The above initial dates beg our heightened cardiovascular awareness. Medical astrologers note these changes as suggestive of “heart watch” and increased stroke, thrombosis and aneurysm prevention. Learn more detail at my Monthly Medical Astrology Report.

            Jupiter in Leo is equally famous for producing hot, scorching weather! Leo is the hottest zodiac sign. Hot weather is hard on circulation. Common sense and hydration are essential for athletes or elderly folks active in hot weather around these dates.
