Planetary Dignity and Debility for Healers and Astrologers

In Hellenistic and Jyotish astrology, a planet in its sign of “rulership” or “exaltation" is indeed powerful, but when in “detriment" or “fall,” behaves poorly.

In Horary practice, a debilitated planet on an angle, is the thief, provided you are looking for one!

In Jyotish, a dignified planet on an angle signifies a specific karmic accomplishment of a high degree.

However, these forms of interpretation do not always translate to medical or vocational astrology, because here, we work with planetary energetics.

In this world, an admirably placed 'Mars in Aries' can in truth, be much too hot, being infamous for cytokine storms!

Having noticed my students adhering to the good/bad model of planetary assessment, (and thus, going wrong with their cases), it was clear that we need a clarification of Planetary Dignity and Debility in medical (and vocational) astrology.

All astrologers, herbalists, and healers (especially those interested in medical and vocational applications of the planets) will immensely benefit by understanding planetary “dignity" and “debility" as an energetically and situationally dependent interpretive tool.

  • Is Saturn always detrimental?
  • Can a dignified Jupiter cause medical trouble?
  • Is Saturn in domicile any less problematic than in his “fall”?
  • What does Mars in Taurus really mean?
